What if you are out of chocolates and crave something sweet and chocolaty? Try out this easy and tasty no egg Chocolate Pudding recipe. It is a super smooth, rich, creamy, gooey, melt in your mouth pudding recipe. It only calls for a few ingredients and you can make this even if your pantry is out of cocoa powder or chocolate.
I never had store bought puddings or custards when I was little. Whenever we kids crave for something sweet, our mom made that from scratch for the whole family (including guests, if we have any). This pudding was one of my mom’s recipes, but she made it with unsweetened cocoa powder and eggs. I gave it a little twist by using a chocolate flavored drink mix and the result was amazing. Also no eggs or gelatin is added. So, yes here I am sharing my recipe with you and I hope you also enjoy it the way I did.
What ingredients to use?
Chocolate Drink Mix – You can use any chocolate flavored drink mix that you like, Milo, boost, bournvita, etc. I used Ovaltine, that’s all I had in my hand. If you don’t have any of these don’t worry, you can use unsweetened cocoa powder.
All-purpose flour/ Maida – Maida helps the pudding to get thick and creamy. You can substitute this with corn starch.
Whole Milk – Whole milk helps the pudding to have the desirable creamy, thick texture. Otherwise the pudding will be light in consistency.
Sugar – Regular sugar can be used. Raw, powdered or any sugar substitutes will also work.
Instant coffee powder – Coffee always tastes amazing with chocolate and it can give a rich, bold flavor to the pudding. But it is totally optional. You can avoid it if you don’t like it.
Toppings – Chocolate puddings are best with whipped cream. But I like it better with roasted nuts, fruits and/ or any kind of berries.
How to serve?
The pudding tastes amazing if you serve it chilled. You can pour the mixture into a pudding serving dish or any glass, or dessert dish, once it is warm. Allow it to cool off to room temperature before putting in the fridge. Then keep on the top rack of the fridge for 2 – 4 hours, or overnight.
I have layered mine with some fresh strawberries and pomegranate seeds. You can add your favorite toppings while serving the pudding. It is totally optional. Let your imagination fly.

- If the mixture has lumps or it came out lumpy, sieve it through a mesh sieve. This helps the texture to be smooth.
